Are we "JUST" thirsty?

So yesterday . . . we spoke about the "FINE LINE" between "hunger" and "thirst".

Well today . . . let's continue this conversation

Now . . . I'm sure we've all experienced the feeling of "thirst" before . . . you know . . . when you get a little "itch" or "dryness" in the back of the throat or mouth . . .

Or . . . on a "hot" day . . . when you feel the "need" to "guzzle" a cool drink . . .

But . . . did you know . . . when you have a "distracting urge" . . . to stop what you're doing because you have a little "anxiety" moment going on . . .

Well . . . this "TOO" . . . is a sign of being . . . "THIRSTY"

You see . . . when the body starts to "run low" on water . . . several things start to happen.

First . . . the "volume" of blood in the body "decreases" . . . causing a "change" in "blood pressure".

And this is due to the amount of "salt" and other "minerals" in the body . . . "staying" constant . . . as the "volume" of liquid (blood) "decreases".

Next . . . as we know . . . the body needs a "steady" supply of fluid to transport nutrients . . . eliminate waste (poop and pee) . . . and to lubricate and cushion joints . . .

But . . . "without" ample water in the body . . . all this goes to "hell in a handbasket"

And now . . . "inflammation" becomes an issue

Okay . . . so it's the highly specialized part of the brain called the . . . "lamina terminalis" that's responsible for "guiding" the body through "thirst".

You see . . . brain cells in the "lamina terminalis" can actually "sense" when the body is "running low" on water.

And with this . . . some "thirst signals" that the brain can pick up on are . . .

Blood osmolality

Blood volume

Blood pressure

Circulating sodium levels

Hormone regulation

Skin dryness

Temperature

Ability to swallow

And when we drink "water" . . . the body will notice changes such as . . .

Regulated of heart rate

Proper kidney function

And appetite suppression

Okay . . . so you know how we've spoken a lot about the brain chemical called . . . "dopamine" recently . . .

Well guess what???

When we "drink" ample amounts of "water" . . . this "raises" dopamine levels in the brain.

And if we suffer from any of the elements we've spoken about recently . . . then we know "low" levels of "dopamine" . . . aren't a good thing.

So why is "drinking water" so important???

Well . . . "water" causes "dopamine" release in the brain.

And . . . "water" is a "REWARD" for "dopamine"

Which makes the body "HAPPY" and "HEALTHY"!

So tomorrow . . . let's talk about how drinking ample "water" and "eating patterns" can help to accomplish our "GOAL" of "LOSING WEIGHT"
