"CANCER" - continued

Okay . . . so, yesterday . . . we left off talking about whether science thinks . . . being in "remission" . . . . is like a "cure" . . .or not.

So today . . . let's continue . . .

First question . . . is "recurrence" of cancer "worse" than having it the "first" time???

Well . . . some people say that a cancer "recurrence" can be especially "devastating" due to many factors . . .

With one being . . . the "support" team they had the first time . . . can no long maintain that "strength" through the "recurrence" . . . and therefore . . . the patient feels more "alone" in this process.

And with this . . . cancer "survivorship" can be very difficult . . .

The "fear" of cancer coming back is a "COMMON" feeling and "nightmare" to many . . . this being . . . the "recurrence".

You see . . . there are many different reasons why cancer might come back . . . with the most common being . . .

The "original" treatment "didn't" get rid of all the cancer cells . . . and with this . . . those left behind . . . growing into a "new" tumor

Or . . . some of the cancer cells had "spread" to other parts of the body and were "undetected" at the time of the "first" cancer.

So, I guess the next question would be . . .

What cancer has the "highest" REMISSION rate???

Well . . . that would be . . .

Breast cancer - early stages of 0 to 1 - the 5 year survival rate is 99%

Prostate cancer - stage 1 and 2 - the 5 year survival rate is also 99%

And the cancer that has the "highest" RECURRENCE rate is???

Glioblastoma . . . the Journal of Neuro-Oncology states - the most common type of "brain" cancer - has a near 100% "recurrence" rate.

And the "toughest" cancer to treat would be . . .

Pancreatic cancer . . .

You see . . . 7 in 10 will receive no active treatment . . . and 9 out of 10 people with pancreatic cancer are "diagnosed" TOO LATE for surgery . . . with that being the only treatment that can potentially cure the disease.

And moving down the list for difficult cancers to treat would be . . .

Mesothelioma

Gallbladder cancer

Esophageal cancer

Liver and intrahepatic bile duct cancer

Lung and bronchial cancer

Pleural cancer

And Acute monocytic leukemia

Now . . . has anyone ever "conquered" their cancer without treatment???

Well . . . 1 out of every 100,000 cancer patients have "shed" this disease without conventional treatment.

So tomorrow . . . let's talk about the effects of "secondary" cancer . . .

And then next week . . . let's talk "specifically" about "BREAST" cancer and "PROSTATE" cancer . . . due to these 2 cancers being the #1 and #2 cancers in the U.S.
