So today, let's continues with the "connection" between "carbonated" drinks and health issues . . . with one of them being "kidney stones"
Now . . . the American Kidney Fund, reported a recent study that said . . . drinking 2 or more "carbonated" sodas . . . diet or regular . . . or . . . "carbonated" and "energy drinks" every day can increase the risk of "chronic kidney disease" . . . which are linked to the formation of "kidney stones".
So why does this happen???
Well . . . according to the National Kidney Foundation . . . "metabolic acidosis" . . . that's too much "acid" in the body for optimal health . . . can be a result of "carbon dioxide" NOT being removed from the body.
So what do the "kidneys" have to do with this???
Well . . . "healthy" kidneys remove "acid" from the body through urination and keep just the right amount of "bicarbonate" in the blood. This in turn makes for optimal health . . .
But . . . if the kidneys can't accomplish their mission . . . and can't remove enough "acid" . . . this can lead to "metabolic acidosis".
You see . . . if the body has "TOO" much "carbon dioxide" in it . . . on a consistent basis . . . many long-term illnesses can occur . . . such as . . .
Increased bone loss - osteoporosis
Decreased growth in children
Progression of Chronic Kidney Disease
High blood sugar
And some times if severe enough . . . death
So how can we help to "prevent" the body from becoming TOO acidic???
Well . . . if we "DO" consume too many "carbonated beverages" . . . a diet that includes more "plant-based" proteins than "animal-based" proteins . . . along with a high intake of fruits and vegetables . . . can help keep this "acid" level from rising in the blood . . . which can help prevent "metabolic acidosis".
So if you're a "carbonated beverage" drinker of ANY KIND . . . make sure your kidneys are healthy and can eliminate this acid from the body . . . OR . . . health issues down the road are on their way.
