"Collagen" in skincare products

Okay . . . SO PLEASE . . . LISTEN UP PEOPLE . . . STOP WASTING YOUR MONEY ON COLLAGEN CREAMS for youthful looking skin!

I know, I know . . . they're everywhere and they all promise to make us look 10 years younger.

But . . . do they really do what they say they will for our skin???

Well . . . simply put . . . "NO"

Why you ask???

Well . . . the problem is this . . . "collagen" is a "huge" molecule that just sits on the skin and "cannot" be absorbed "into" the skin.

So unfortunately . . . it's all a marketing hype . . . and it's working because according to statistics, 1.68 million Americans spent $500 or more on skincare products every year . . . with the majority of it being collagen creams and serums to make us look younger.

So what's it all about???

What does applying collagen topically to the face actually do for us???

Well . . . the "other added ingredients" . . . moisturize the skin and that's about the extent of what they can do.

And yes . . . when you apply a moisturizer to the skin it gives the appearance of being smoother until you wash it off. And yes . . . being consistent with a moisturizer is helpful . . . but it'll never give you the youthful skin you're looking for by applying "collagen" to the face.

So let's better understand . . .

Suzan Obagi M.D. UPMC dermatologist and American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery president states . . . "that using a collagen cream may make the skin feel softer and smoother . . . or wrinkles might look less prominent, but that's all an illusion. It's just what's happening on the surface and not actually building collagen".
