"Collagen" part 3

So today . . . let's continue with what food we need to consume to stimulate and "rebuild" the "natural" collagen production in our skin.

Okay . . . now listen up people . . . because this is important.

We spoke yesterday about collagen "supplements" and "powders" containing too much of the amino acid called "arginine", which can cause negative effects to the body.

So the question for today is this . . .

Does the food we eat that contains "collagen" . . . also contain high amounts of "arginine"???

And the answer to that would be . . . "YES"

BUT . . . the difference is this . . . this food "ALSO" contains the amino acid called "lysine" which counteracts the affect of too much "arginine". Therefore . . . we don't get the same negative effects to the body as we do with taking a collagen supplement.

Okay . . . so what foods are we talking about???

Well . . . eating foods rich in vitamin C and amino acids can increase the levels of "hyaluronic acid" and collagen in the body. Which in turn . . . stimulates youthful skin.

Now . . . Hyaluronic acid is naturally produced by the body and has the ability to alleviate dry skin, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. And this . . . retains moisture in the skin that creates a plumping effect and speeds up wound healing.

It can also help relieve joint pain in people with osteoarthritis.

You see . . . Hyaluronic acid is the compound that "improves" the collagen in the skin. And without vitamin C and Hyaluronic acid . . . the body can't form collagen efficiently.

Okay . . . another important factor is this . . .

As we know . . . collagen is the main structural protein that supports connective tissue in the body. You know . . . the glue that holds us together.

Well . . . collagen needs "WATER" to do its job of structuring the skin effectively. In fact . . . water is about 60% of collagen's total weight.

And ONLY when the skin is protected and" hydrated" . . . can skin cell "production" take place.

So how important is drinking a lot of water to youthful looking skin???

Okay . . . so let's continue . . .

Now . . . what foods help us rebuild and stimulate the body's collagen production???

Well . . . that would be . . .

Chicken - white meat

Fish - omega 3 fatty acids

Egg white - contain large amounts of "proline" which is one of the amino acids necessary for collagen production

Citrus fruits - for their high vitamin C volume like oranges, grapefruit, lemons and limes

Berries - again due to high vitamin C and antioxidants like raspberries, blueberries and blackberries

Tropical fruits - high in vitamin C like mango, kiwi, pineapple and guava

Tomatoes - 1 medium tomato has almost 30% of the vitamin C needed for collagen production, while also containing "lycopene" a powerful antioxidant for the skin

Garlic - not only can boost collagen "production" . . . it contains a trace mineral that helps to "prevent" the "breakdown" of collagen

Leaf greens - like spinach, kale, swiss chard and even Brussel sprouts contain "chlorophyll" which increases the precursor to collagen in the skin

Beans - which are rich in the mineral "copper" necessary in collagen production.

And some essential oils that help natural collagen cell growth and production by reducing free radicals would be . . . lemon, carrot seed, frankincense, geranium, rosehip and neroli. Each having their own special benefits for skin. But . . . not just one will fit that bill. It would take a combination of these oils.

Tomorrow we'll continue with a way to help stimulate natural collagen production.
