Cranberries . . . a tart little treat

Okay . . . so today let's continue with our discussion about how to eliminate a UTI
As I stated yesterday . . . there are several ways to help reduce the pain and suffering of a urinary tract infection.
But one of my favorite is "cranberry juice".
You see . . . cranberry juice in the alternative world of medicine, is a very good way to reduce the amount of bad bacteria in this area of the body.
Why you ask???
Well . . . cranberries have a special ingredient in them called A-type proanthocyanidins (PACs) that have the ability to prevent bacteria from "sticking" to the "bladder wall".
Whoohoo . . . some relief
Now . . . as with most things in life . . . not all cranberry juice is created equal.
It must be PURE, unsweetened cranberry juice . . . sorry, that doesn't mean cranberry juice cocktail. That can actually flare up a UTI due to the amount of sugar in it.
You know what I'm talking about . . . that pure juice that's both sour and bitter at the same time and kind of rocks your world with tartness.
Pure cranberry juice is rich in vitamin C which helps keep the immune system healthy and functioning properly. It fights against and prevents age-related oxidative stress from free radicals (we've spoken of this many times before) and helps to kill harmful bacteria.
Pure cranberry juice can also improve blood pressure and lower both systolic blood pressure and LDL cholesterol.
This powerful little berry is loaded with acid compounds that fight off the "bad" bacteria I'm always talking about.
And not only can pure cranberry juice help to eliminate a UTI . . . it can also help aid in weight loss due to killing the "bad" bacteria that causes the inflammation which ultimately is one of the main reasons we can't lose weight.
NOTE: Now for most of us, drinking pure cranberry juice is good to go, but . . . due to it being acidic . . . if you are a sufferer of acid reflux . . . it may give you a mild reaction. The key to this is drinking it during the day when you're active. Not in the evening, just sitting or at night before bed.
So how much should we consume???
Well . . . I drink 2 ounces every few days . . . that amount is easy enough to just drink and swallow. Any more than that . . . is just too tart for me. And as it is, the 2 ounces rocks my world :) But that's just me!
And if you were to feel a UTI coming on . . . 2 ounces "every day" would be a good amount. Unless you have an acid reflux reaction. Then discontinue.
Tomorrow we'll talk about another way to eliminate a UTI
