"EMPTY CALORIES" - continued

Okay . . . so yesterday we spoke about what "empty calories" are . . .

Well today . . . I'll explain why we shouldn't eat them.

Remember the other day . . . I told you about the study done by the Food & Nutrition Research journal that said . . . "the human body "only" burns 50% as many calories digesting "empty calorie" food . . . as it does digesting whole "real" food

Well . . . let me explain a little better . . .

You see . . . when we eat an "empty calorie, nutritionally void food" . . . the body "only" digests . . . not utilizes for energy mind you . . . about 50% of those calories . . . with the other 50% going to the body's "FAT STORAGE"!

Now . . . when this happens . . . the body is still looking for "good", nutritious calories to give us energy and for normal bodily functions.

BUT . . . the body isn't getting what it needs because . . . it was looking for vitamins, minerals and fiber . . . and all it got was nutritionally VOID "empty calorie" food.

Okay . . . so at this point . . . our body sends out a "MAYDAY" call to the brain . . .

"WE NEED "NUTRITIOUS" FOOD AND WE'RE NOT GETTING ANY" . . .

So the brain now thinks we're "STARVING" . . .

So what happens next you ask???

Well . . . the brain gets this alert and now stimulates our "SURVIVAL" hormone called "Ghrelin"

And what does this hormone do???

MAKES US EAT MORE!!!

You see . . . when you eat "empty calories" . . . this process . . . keeps the body begging for more food because this "empty" food has "NO" nutritional value like vitamins, minerals and fiber . . . which eventually leads to metabolic syndrome where the body stores FAT.

So think about this . . .

Do you ever wonder why you're still hungry after you eat that granola bar or little snack that's supposed to be tiding you over until dinner???

Well . . . this is why . . . by eating that "empty calories" food . . . you just put your body in "survival mode" because the body still thinks it's "starving".

And do this enough times . . . and all those "empty calories" will end up being stored as "fat" and now weight gain and obesity are knocking at your door. Which as we know . . . can also lead to heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

Okay . . . so one more thing before we move on to another topic . . .

I know you're probably in the mindset that these "empty calories" only come from sweet, snacks and the "junk food" we eat . . .

But . . . another really "BIG" offender of "empty calories" is "rice" and "pasta" . . .

Yep . . . you heard me right . . .

You see . . . rice is also considered "empty carbs" because it's refined, polished and stripped of its bran and germ. And with this . . . it "increases" its cooking quality, shelf life and tastiness . . . BUT . . . it significantly "reduces" its "nutritional value".

So eating rice . . . will also leave you unsatisfied and looking for more to eat.

And what about "pasta"???

Well . . . tomorrow, we'll discover the possibilities of "PASTA"
