Food Dyes - "Good or Bad"?

So yesterday we spoke about "caramel coloring" and how detrimental it is to our health.

Well . . . today let's continue this search for elements "silently" destroying our body's.

As we know . . . artificial food dyes are responsible for the bright colors of candy, sports drinks and baked goods. And the consumption of these bright little colors in the food we eat has increased by 500% in the last 50 years, with children being the biggest consumers. Science says . . . bright colors "excite" us and make us "happy"! So of course our children are going to love them! A true marketing strategy

KIds and some adults, just see the pretty colors, but you know what I'm talking about . . . The Red No. 2, Red No 3, Red No. 40, Yellow No. 5, Yellow No. 6, Blue No. 1, Blue No. 2, Green No. 3 and Orange B . . . with the most popular food dyes being Red 40, Yellow 5 and Yellow 6. These 3 make up about 90% of all the food dyes used in the US.

There's so much controversy out there between manufacturers and the consumer, whether food dyes are safe, due to their use being linked to obesity, cancer and hyperactivity. And with that being said . . . . many artificial dyes (as the listed above) are FDA approved and are said to be completely safe to eat for humans.

So my question is this . . . . What the heck is the FDA thinking????

The 3 most widely used dyes of today are Yellow 5, Yellow 6 and Rd 40 which contain compounds including "benzidine" and "4-aminobiphenyl", which have been linked with "cancer". Not to mention that science has associated food dyes with problems in children such as allergies, hyperactivity, leaning impairment, irritability and aggressiveness.

So how can this be right? . . . How can the FDA approve these dyes and say they're safe?

Okay . . . so let's do our own research and see what this stuff is really made of!

Are you sitting down? . . . Originally artificial food coloring was manufactured from "coal tar", which obviously comes from coal. Well . . . early critics (yeah, you go people) were quick to point this out. You see . . . exposure to coal tar increases the risk of "cancers" like lung, bladder, kidney and digestive tract cancer. So manufacturing decided to change all that. (critics and consumers - 1 . . . . manufactures - 0) whoohoo!

But . . . here it comes . . . even though manufacturing has changed what artificial food dyes are derived from . . . that doesn't mean it's any "BETTER"!

Today, most synthetic food dyes, that's the ones I listed above . . . are derived from "petroleum" or "crude oil"

Yes . . . you hear me right!

"Petroleum," also called crude oil is a liquid fossil fuel mixture that's found underground and is used to make gasoline and diesel fuel.

And this is supposed to be safer??????

The toxicity of "petroleum" related products are a threat to human health. Many compounds found in this oil are highly toxic and can cause cancer, as well as other diseases.

"Benzene" for example . . . is present in both crude oil and gasoline and is known to cause "leukemia" in humans.

So just throwing this out there . . . is this a contributing factor as to why 3500 children are diagnosed with leukemia each year. And as we know "leukemia" is the most common childhood cancer, making up about a third of all pediatric cancers in the US.

Just saying . . .

So read the labels people . . . I can't say this enough!

And for those adults that are saying . . . I don't eat that stuff . . . check out your supplements, antacids, pain relievers, etc . . . because many of them are loaded with dyes also!!!!
