Happy St. Patrick's Day

So today, I thought since we're talking about dieting and "FOCUSING" on the prize of optimal health . . .

I'd give you a little insight on a favorite little "cheat" for many of us while celebrating St. Patrick's day.

You see . . . sometimes seeing the reality of a little "cheat" treat . . . helps put things in perspective on a "guilty" little pleasure.

Okay . . . so I won't mention any names . . . but there's this "guilty" little drink called the "Shamrock Shake" that's offered this time of year.

This shake has been around for over 30+ years and has advertised that it only has 4 ingredients which include . . . vanilla "reduced" fat ice cream, shamrock shake syrup, whipped cream and a maraschino cherry.

So how bad can that be, right???

It's got "reduced" fat ice cream in it . . .

BUT . . . the problem is this . . . each one of those ingredients is involved with 10 to 15 other ingredients.

So let's break it down . . . because many times we tell ourselves . . . it's only a "little" treat . . . right???

Well . . . let's start with the vanilla "reduced" fat ice cream. How bad can that be???

Well . . . it contains: milk, SUGAR, cream, nonfat milk solids, "corn syrup solids" (which is sugar), mono- and diglycerides, guar gum, "dextrose" (which is sugar), sodium citrate, "artificial" vanilla flavor, sodium phosphate, "disodium phosphate" (which is derived from stone and has been shown to contain radioactive agents), cellulose gum, vitamin A palmitate and "carrageenan" (a toxic filler that is often found in products such as frozen dinner, ice cream and soups and has been linked to "inflammatory" conditions such as leaky gut, digestive issues and cancer).

Then there's the Shamrock shake syrup that contains: "high fructose corn syrup" (which is sugar), "corn syrup" (which is sugar), water, "sugar", natural flavor (of what????), xanthan gum, "yellow 5, blue 1" (which are toxic to the body and can cause allergic reaction among other illnesses) . . . and "citric acid and sodium benzoate".

And guess what PEOPLE???

When "citric acid" and "sodium benzoate" are combined . . . they form "benzene". And "benzene" is a known cancer-causing agent which increases the risk of "leukemia" and other cancers.

Next up . . . whipped cream and it contains: cream, nonfat milk, "corn syrup" Which is sugar), "sugar", "high-fructose corn syrup" (which is sugar), "carrageenan" (a known carcinogen), "polysorbae-80" (which is derived from sugar alcohol), beta-carotene, "artificial" flavor, vitamin E and nitrous oxide.

And finally . . . the cherry on top . . . now this is a "cherry" people . . . how bad can that be???

Well . . . it contains: cherry, water, "corn syrup" (which is sugar), "high-fructose corn syrup" (again sugar), "sugar", malic acid, potassium sorbate, "red 40" (a well known carcinogen), sulfur dioxide, "artificial" flavors . . . and again . . . "citric acid and sodium benzoate" (creating "benzene" a known carcinogen).

End result . . . that SMALL little shake . . . and I'm NOT talking about the BIG one . . . contains:

530 calories

15 grams fat (24% U.S. Daily Value)

10 grams saturated fat (49% U.S. Daily Value)

1 gram trans fat

160 milligrams sodium (7% U.S. Daily Value)

And . . . "73" grams of sugar . . . that's almost "22" TEASPOONS of "SUGAR" PEOPLE!!!!!

And according to the American Heart Association . . . the "maximum" amount of added sugar we should consume in a day is:

Men: 150 calories of sugar per day . . . which is 37.5 grams or "9" TEASPOONS

Women: 100 calories of sugar per day . . . which is 25 grams or "6" TEASPOONS

Children 2 years and older: 100 calories of sugar per day . . . which is again 25 grams or "6" TEASPOONS

And Children under 2 years: NO ADDED SUGAR AT ALL!

So let's skip the holiday shake this year . . . PLEASE . . . and just have a Happy and fun-filled St. Patrick's Day.

As always, feel free to DM or contact me at:
