How many "calorie" do we "burn" doing "NOTHING"?

So the other day . . . we spoke about how many calories a body "should" burn on an average day.
Well . . . today let's figure out just how many we "really" burn. . .
Now . . . did you know . . . we actually "burn" calories without even "thinking" about it???
You see . . . the brain uses about 20% of the body's energy every day.
And the simple task of "thinking" . . . burns about 320 calories each day. And the "more" active the brain is in "thinking" . . . the more calories we burn.
Now . . . what about if you're a "fidgetier" . . . which is movement like jiggling your leg, tapping your foot or twirling a pen???
Well . . . this action in itself only burns a few calories . . .
But . . . add all those "little" calories up during the day . . . and you could burn 350 calories for a "non-exercise" day.
We even burn calories when we "sleep".
The average 150 pound person burns about 50 calories an hour when in a deep sleep. So if you sleep 8 hours . . . then you've just brunt about 400 calories.
So how else do we burn calories on an average day???
Well . . .
Light cleaning like dusting, straightening up, etc. will burn about 170 calories
And tougher jobs like scrubbing and cleaning accumulated dirt and grime can burn up to 190 calories per hour.
Pushing a vacuum cleaner can burn about 100 calories every 30 minutes.
And even simple things like taking a shower can burn calories.
A 15 minute shower burns about 62 calories,
And drying your hair for 15 minutes can burns about 40 calories.
And what about cooking???
Well . . . preparing food can burn about 150 calories per hour . . . meaning you could actually burn half of what you eat for that meal . . . just preparing it.
Taking care of children can burn between 300 and 600 calories per hour.
Even brushing your teeth can burn calories . . . brushing for 2 minutes can burn 4 calories.
Laughing for 10 to 15 minutes can burns 10 to 40 calories . . .
And what about a little loving???
Well . . . during a really passionate kiss, you might burn 2 calories a minute.
And if you're getting it on in a "love session" . . .
Men burn about 100 calories for 25 minutes of love making . . . and women burn about 70 calories for that same time.
So you can clearly see . . . that even if you don't "exercise" or go to the gym . . . the body is always burning calories.
Okay . . . so I'll use me as an example . . .
If I were to eat 2000 calories in the average day . . . to maintain my weight and not put extra pounds on . . . I would have to expel or use at least 2000 calories for energy that day.
Okay . . . so on any average given day . . . give or take an activity . . . this is me . . .
Making breakfast . . . 75
Shower . . . 60
Dry hair and getting dressed . . . 40
Brushing teeth . . . 4
Doing my job of research using my brain . . . 600 (probably more :))
Cleaning and picking up the house . . . 270
Laundry . . . 140
Making lunch . . . 75
Laughing with the kids . . . 80
Taking care of our animals here on the farm (feed, grooming etc.) . . . 600 (probably more :))
Making dinner . . . 150
Doing more research using my brain . . . 200
Brushing teeth . . . 4
Shower and getting ready for bed . . . 80
Sleeping . . . 400
So if you were to add up my average day . . . I would have burnt off about 2778 calories.
Ooopppps!
So in essence . . . I accomplished my mission . . . and actually "lost" a little weight . . . and I didn't even have to go to the gym.
So for me . . . eating 2000 calories per day . . . wouldn't work . . . I'd have to consume at least 2778 calories to maintain a "healthy" ME!
Okay . . . so are you seeing where I'm going here???
The average person's daily activity . . . "SHOULD" be enough to keep the pounds off . . .
IF . . . the big IF . . . we don't over eat.
So next week . . . let's continue . . . and talk about "why" we overeat and how to stop that process.
Stay safe and have a "mindful" weekend
