So today . . . let's discover the army of defense that lives deep within us . . .
Okay . . . so what is a "natural Killer" cell? And why are they so important to our SURVIVAL?
Well, first . . . "natural killer" cells mature in the body's bone marrow, lymph nodes, spleen and thymus. And they're the allies to the body when it comes to fighting infections and cancer.
You see . . . when an infection occurs or abnormal cells as with cancer are detected in the body by the immune system . . . "natural killer" cells are the first responders to arrive at the site to do damage control.
Now the problem is this . . . these "natural killer" cells are "short" lived even though they're mighty little cells with enzymes that can kill tumor cells and/or cells infected with a "virus".
Therefore . . . the body "MUST" produce them on a regular basics because these little cells have the ability to kill virally infected cells and control early signs of cancer. They also play an important role in pregnancy.
You see . . . natural killer (NK) cells play a key role in anti-viral control by producing cytokines (we spoke of them in previous Health tips).
So how do we increase our "natural killer" cells to protect our body???
Well . . . NK cell activity can increase by consumption of nutritious foods such as with blueberries, bananas, Maitake mushrooms, Reishi mushrooms, garlic and compliant probiotics.
You see . . . mushrooms can identify and gobble up viruses and bacteria in the body.
Bananas are high in B6 which keeps the immune system functioning properly. Other foods that contain B6 are cold-water fish and lean chicken breast.
Grapes are a natural source of resveratrol which also influences our immune system in a positive manner.
And the body needs a "PRE"biotic, a "Spore-forming" "Pro"biotic and a "Mulit-strain" "Pro"biotic to aid in building a good consistent "natural killer" cells production.
So let's try to have the strongest immune system we can and increase our defenses
