So yesterday . . . we spoke about "what" a "fatty acid" is . . . and their connection to OMEGA fatty acids
We also spoke about this Western diet being "TOO" high in Omega-6 fatty acids
So today . . . let's continue . . .
Now . . . the "ratio" of Omega-6 fats - to - Omega-3 fats . . . should be a . . . 1:1 ratio . . .
BUT . . . this Western diet, we love so much . . . has a ratio of . . . "10:1"
That's right people . . . we as Americans eat "10 times" more Omega-6 fats than Omega-3 fats.
Now, don't get me wrong . . . we need "BOTH" Omega-6 and Omega-3 fats for a "healthy body . . .
And this is due to "BOTH" having "essential" fatty acids that the body "NEEDS" . . .
Why you ask???
Well . . . that's due to the body "NOT" being able to manufacture them itself . . . thus, they're "essential" for life.
And . . . we "MUST" get them from the food we eat!
You see . . . "BOTH" Omega-3 and Omega-6 fats play a "crucial" role in "brain function" . . . and normal growth and development.
And Omega-6 . . . actually "helps" stimulate skin and hair growth . . . maintain bone health . . . regulate metabolism . . . and maintain the reproductive system.
So "Omega-6 fats . . . are a "GOOD THING"!!!
BUT . . . TOO MUCH of a good thing . . . is not always a "GOOD THING"!!!
Eating "TOO MANY" foods "high" in Omega-6 . . . over time . . . causes the body to hold "INFLAMMATION" . . . and can cause blood clots, arthritis, heart disease and increase the risk of "cancer".
And some symptoms of "too many" Omega-6 fats in the diet would be . . .
High blood pressure
Water retention and swelling
And Chronic "inflammation" of tissues
So we can clearly see . . . we as Americans . . . need to "SLOW DOWN" on eating so many foods containing Omega-6 fats
Now tomorrow . . . we'll talk about their counter part . . . Omega-3 fats . . . and how they can help the process of being healthy again.
