Red Onions

So today let's talk about "onions"

What kind of "onions" do you use???

Okay . . . so the most popular sold and used "onion" is a "yellow" onion, which are also called "brown" onions. And the reason for this is due to their versatility. You can use them in just about anything.

But are they the healthiest???

Well . . . yellow onions are about 11 times richer in "antioxidants" than white onions. So they make a better choice. But . . . are they the best???

In a study published in Food Research International . . . they found that "red" onions were more effective at killing human cancer cells than any other onion. And this was due to their higher levels of the antioxidants called "quercetin" and "anthocyanin".

Red onions are full of sulfur compounds that protect the body from ulcers and various cancers. They can fight bacteria in the urinary tract and are high in “quercetin” an antioxidant that provides protection against cancer, heart disease and allergies. Red onions are a good source of soluble fiber, which makes it a powerful “prebiotic” food. And with this . . . it ensures a healthy gut, which is crucial for weight and belly fat loss.

So when I cook a meal . . . I make sure I use "red" onions.
