September is "National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month"

We spoke about "remembrance" the other day. So today I'd like to continue with the importance of this month.

September is "Childhood Cancer Awareness Month", when we recognize the children and families affected by childhood cancer.

Each "day" in the U.S. there are an estimated 43 children, that's 15,780 children between the ages of birth and 19 years of age that will be diagnosed with cancer. That's approximately 1 in every 285 children. And sadly . . . resulting in the death of approximately 1800 children every year.

So what can we do to stop this devastation?

In a word . . . "EDUCATE" because "KNOWLEDGE IS THE POWER OF HEALING"!

So, what types of cancer are inflicting our children?

Leukemia is #1 then,

Brain and spinal cord tumors

Neuroblastoma

Wilms tumor

Lymphoma (including body Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin)

Rhabdomyosarcoma

Bone cancer (including osteosarcoma and Ewing sarcoma)

And even though Leukemia accounting for about 28% of all cancers in children

being number 1 on the list . . . the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that "brain" cancer, number 2 on the list is now the "deadliest" pediatric cancer.

So how do we fix this? . . . How do we protect our children?
