Time to get in "shape" - part 2

So yesterday we were talking about how many calories a body should burn on an average day.

Well . . . today let's figure out just how many you burn. . .

Okay . . . so did you know that the average person that weighs about 150 pound . . . even if we're "not" out exercising . . . burns calories . . .

You see . . . the brain uses about 20% of the body's energy per day. And the simple task of thinking burns about 320 calories a day. And the more active the brain is in thinking . . . the more calories burnt.

And if you're a "fidgeter", which is movement like jiggling your leg, tapping your foot or twirling a pen . . . you burn only a small number of calories . . . but add all those calories up during the day and by the end of the day you could burn 350 calories for a non-exercise day.

And if you like walking . . . 2 miles could burn about 140 calories

We even burn calories when we sleep. The average 150 pound person burns about 50 calories an hour when sleeping. So if you sleep 8 hours . . . you've just brunt 400 calories.

So how else do we burn calories on an average day???

Well . . . light cleaning like dusting, straightening up, etc. will burn about 170 calories and tougher jobs like scrubbing and cleaning accumulated dirt and grime can burn up to 190 calories per hour.

Pushing a vacuum cleaner can burn about 100 calories every 30 minutes. And even simple things like taking a shower can burn calories. A 15 minute shower burns about 62 calories, And drying your hair for 15 minutes can burns about 40 calories.

And what about cooking???

It burns about 150 calories per hour . . . meaning you could actually burn half of what you eat for that meal.

Taking care of children can burn between 300 and 600 calories per hour.

Even brushing your teeth can burn calories. Brush for 2 minutes and burn 4 calories.

Laughing for 10 to 15 minutes can burns 10 to 40 calories, And what about a little loving'???

During a really passionate kiss, you might burn 2 calories a minute. And if you're getting it on in a love session . . . men burn about 100 calories for 25 minutes of love making and women burn about 70 calories for the same time.

So you can clearly see . . . that even if you don't exercise or go to the gym . . . the body is always burning calories.

Okay . . . so let's break it down.

I'll use me as an example . . .

If I were to eat 2000 calories in the average day . . . to maintain my weight and not put extra pounds on . . . I would have to expel or use at least 2000 calories for energy.

Okay . . . so on any average given day . . . give or take an activity . . .

Making breakfast . . . 75

Shower . . . 60

Dry hair . . . 40

Brush teeth . . . 4

Doing my job of research using my brain . . . 600 (probably more :))

Cleaning the house and vacuum . . . 270

Laundry . . . 140

Making lunch . . . 75

Laughing with the kids . . . 80

Taking care of the kids . . .200

Taking care of our horses (feed and groom) . . . 400

Making dinner . . . 150

Brush teeth . . . 4

Sleeping . . . 300

If you were to add up my average day . . . I would have burnt off about 2398 calories.

So I accomplished my mission and I didn't even have to go to the gym.

Okay . . . so are you seeing where I'm going here???

The average person's daily activity is enough to keep the pounds off . . .

IF . . . the big IF . . . we don't over eat.

And in this series . . . I'm going to tell you why we overeat and how to stop that process.

Tomorrow we continue with more question answered.

As always, feel free to contact me here
