What are "EMPTY CALORIES"?

So today . . . we're talking about "EMPTY CALORIES"
And the damage they can do to our body and health . . .
But first . . . what exactly is an "empty calorie" and why are they called that???
Well . . . "empty calories" are those calories we consume that come from added sugars, solid fats and processed oils. And they include carbohydrate-based desserts like cakes, cookies, biscuits, donuts, muffins and granola bars, just to mention a few.
"Empty calories" are also found in sugary drinks like soda, energy drinks, sweet teas, lemonade and fruit juices. Some other examples would be . . . like the "junk food" we spoke of yesterday, which also includes "fast foods".
And I hate to break the news to those of you that like your "alcohol" . . . but this too . . . is just an "empty" calorie beverage. And it doesn't matter what kind you drink!
Okay . . . so now I'm sure some of you are asking . . . are consuming "empty calories" better than consuming "no calories" at all when you're hungry???
Well . . . The U.S, Department of Agriculture (USDA) says . . . "A small amount of empty calories are okay, but most people eat far more than is healthy".
So in reality . . . the answer to that question would be . . . NO!
And tomorrow I'll explain why . . .
