Why do we "LOVE" our candy?

So as you can clearly see from yesterday's Health tip . . . Americans "LOVE" their candy

And why is that???

Well . . . that would be the "sugar" and "salt" combinations.

But . . . the main "nutritional" concern with "any" candy is the "added" sugar. This sugar provides "excess" calories without any "additional benefit". These types of added sugar are true "empty" calories and are linked with weight gain and chronic diseases.

Too much sugar at "any" given time can cause "insulin" resistance, obesity and diabetes.

Where "salt" can cause water gain and high blood pressure, which can lead to heart failure, heart attack and stroke.

But the main concern . . . is with the preservative called "TBHQ" that many of these candies we eat on a binge or regular basis contain.

At high doses . . . this preservative has several negative health effects such as producing precursors to stomach tumors and damage to DNA. A number of studies have shown that prolonged exposure to high doses of TBHQ may be "carcinogenic, especially for stomach tumors.

And according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, cases of vision disturbances have been reported when humans consume TBHQ. They have also found that TBHQ has caused liver enlargement, neurotoxic effects, convulsions and paralysis.

So buyer beware . . . even though these candies are calling out your name this Halloween . . . be aware of the devastation that candy can cause to the body. It's not just about the empty calories . . . it goes way beyond that.

And tomorrow we continue this conversation about the toxic effects.

As always, feel free to contact me here.
