Coming back to life!

So, this is a current picture of 3 weeks post corrective surgery.
Still a little bruising . . . and I still need to strengthen my muscles . . .
But . . . what a difference just 1 week makes . . .
Now, yesterday . . . I told you that coming out of "recovery" was chore for me . . .
It took me 5 hours . . .
And I woke up with "VERTIGO"!!!
So, they gave me something to stop the room from spinning . . . kept me for a few more hours and then sent me home.
And I was good to go . . . until I WASN'T!!!
The next morning I woke up . . . and I couldn't get the words out . . . NOTHING!!!
My "internal dialogue" was good . . . but, to get those words out of my mouth was a feat beyond compare . . .
So . . . WHAT WAS HAPPENING TO ME???
Well . . . when certain pain medications, sedatives, or anesthesia residuals are used . . . they can cause severe grogginess, confusion, or delirium . . . impacting the ability to form words.
Now . . . this can last from 24 hours to 72 . . . or . . . for weeks!!!
You see . . . when falling asleep or waking up . . . anesthetics affects the dopamine pathway . . . and suppresses the frontal lobe's executive function.
And with this . . . it releases "elevated" levels of cortisol . . . . which can impair semantic and working memory . . . and this . . . diminishes the brain's ability to easily link and recall words.
So, that was me in a "nutshell" my friends!!!
Due to having HIGH CORTISOL to begin with . . . and then MORE elevated levels of cortisol when I woke up . . .
It left me a mess of jumbled words . . .
If they had only listened to me . . . and dealt with this issue before surgery!!!!
But . . . thinking positive . . . the GOOD NEWS is . . .
Taking the screws and wire bands out of my knee . . . did the trick!!!
Now it's just time to heal my knee . . .
So, lesson learned . . .
Understanding the neuroendocrine effects is important in perioperative medicine.
And instead of treating it after surgery . . . treat it before . . . because it demonstrates "why" . . . high pre-surgical anxiety . . . and the resulting cortisol spike . . . often complicates anesthetic induction and can lead to delayed cognitive and verbal recovery.
So, with that being said . . .
I've decided to take the rest of the summer off.
I'm fine . . . I truly am . . .
And I will miss you all tremendously . . .
But . . . it's time to stop and smell the roses for a few months!
Now, . . . the Cottage Food Stand is still up and running . . . and I'll be baking my little fingers to the bone for you . . .
And the Reunion is still on . . .
More to come on those 2 events soon!!!!
So, have a wonderful summer my friends . . . and remember to be "mindful" in your world!
