So yesterday . . . we spoke about how the caffeine from our coffee . . . or for that matter . . . ANY caffeine . . . that includes the morning "chocolate" lovers also . . .
"Raises" our level of the hormone called Cortisol . . . when it's naturally supposed to be "decreasing" in levels at that time of day.
This NOW . . . puts us in a state of "overeating" and "emotional distress" all day long.
Why you ask???
Well . . . when Cortisol is elevated above its normal level for that time of day . . . meaning, in the morning . . .
It also disrupts and "TURNS OFF" our "Leptin" hormone . . . which is our "fasting" hormone . . .
You know . . . the one that STOPS us from over eating!!!
And if that's not bad enough . . .
It "TURNS ON" our "Ghrelin" hormone . . . which is our "hunger" hormone . . .
Which all sets us up for failure to control our . . . weight . . . mood . . . and energy for the day!!!
And with this type of day . . .
It sets up our night and sleep to be disrupted and then the next morning our Cortisol hormone will "SPIKE" again and upset our sleep-wake rhythm.
This now becomes . . . a "never" ending pattern and cycle . . . of distress for the body and YOU!!!
Okay . . . so, let's continue . . .
At the beginning of the week I said that Cortisol has a "voluntary" and "involuntary" function.
And we just spent that past few days talking about Cortisol's "voluntary" job.
But, what's its "involuntary" job???
Well . . . that would be . . . our "environment" . . . and the stress around us . . . that can "trigger" a rise in Cortisol through the day.
And tomorrow we'll talk about that . . .
