Changing the world's outlook

So, in closing this week . . .
I think we "all" at some point in our lives . . . have been "guilty" of "dehumanizing" someone or a group of people.
You know . . . "thinking" LESS of them . . . because we don't agree with their beliefs or values . . . or how they look or act.
So . . . to me . . . "CHANGING THE WORLD'S OUTLOOK" . . .
Needs to start "within" . . .
We need to be the "leaders" . . . not the "followers" . . . of CHANGE!!!
And "change" . . . starts with "humanization"!!!
The development of "empathy" . . .
The establishment of personal relationships between conflicting parties . . .
and the pursuit of common goals.
Now . . . unfortunately . . . in today's world . . . we see a lot of "mental health issues" affecting people of "all" ages.
With the National Institute of Mental Health . . . estimating 59.3 million adults in the US , , ,
And 7.7 million children (ages 3 - 17) suffering from this disability . . .
And the NUMBERS ARE CLIMBING . . .
What's wrong with this picture PEOPLE???
We see mental illnesses everywhere we look in today's world.
So, I do get . . . even the most "moral" person . . . can have a hard time feeling "empathy" or compassion for someone that is more or less . . . out of control.
And therefore . . . we do tend to put this illness in the . . . "US" vs "THEM" group . . . in today's world.
And I do understand . . . times are different NOW . . .
Before the "pandemic" . . . "mental health issues" were mainly about . . .
Depression
Anxiety disorders
ADHD
ASD
Bipolar disorder
Borderline Personality disorder
Disruptive Mood Dysregulation disorder
And it was easier to NOT "dehumanize" people with these concerns.
"Compassion" was at an all time high.
But, in today's world (post pandemic) . . . we have added to these illnesses . . .
A "psychological distress" . . . particularly among our youth and young adults
People don't know if they're dogs or cats . . . he's or she's . . .
And now we have a "new" mental disorder called . . . "self-harm" behavior . . . which is described as . . . NON-SUICIDAL SELF-INJURY.
A good example would be . . . our young adults taking Tylenol to prove a point.
This is "self-harm" behavior . . . my friends!!!
So, in close . . . do I have a way to STOP the "dehumanization" happening in the world today . . .
Unfortunately . . . NO . . . there is no "magic pill"!!!
All we can do is look "within" . . . and re-establish "humanistic" values like compassion and dignity.
As always, please stay safe and healthy this weekend . . . and remember to be "mindful" in our world.
