Understanding "Glucagon" and "Weight Loss"

So, yesterday . . . we spoke about the function that the hormone called . . . "Insulin" has on our "weight loss" issues . . .

Well, today . . . let's talk about the other hormone the "pancreas" produces called . . . "Glucagon" . . .

What does "it" do for the body and our "weight management"???

Well . . . "Glucagon" is a peptide hormone produced by the "alpha cells" in the pancreas . . .

And this hormone "raises" blood "glucose" levels when they drop to LOW . . .

It acts as a "counter-regulatory" mechanism to "Insulin" . . .

Meaning . . . while "Insulin" lowers blood sugar . . . "Glucagon" increases it!!!

You see . . . "Glucagon" is a "KEY" regulator to our blood sugar levels . . .

BUT . . . what "IF" we have "Insulin resistance" . . . when we have too much "Insulin"???

Well . . . this signals the pancreas . . . to STOP releasing "Glucagon" . . . all together . . .

And how does that affect our "weight loss" process???

Well . . . when the pancreas "shuts down" the process of making "Glucagon" . . . and it's now "depleted" from the body . . .

Our "weight loss" effort enter a whole new phase . . .

You see . . . when the pancreas "stops" producing "Glucagon" . . . the body "loses" a KEY mechanism for "regulating" blood sugar BETWEEN meals . . .

And with this . . . "weight loss" efforts . . . are "negatively impacted" . . .

Why you ask???

Well . . . "Glucagon" NORMALLY suppresses the "APPETITE" . . . BOOSTS METABOLISM!!!

Remember . . . "Glucagon" increases energy expenditure and promotes "satiety" . . .

And a "shortage" can impair the body's ability to BURN FAT effectively!!!

Okay . . . So, I'm sure you've heard about both of these pancreatic hormones before . . .

But, what about the hormone called . . . "Amylin"???

Well . . . this hormone is also produced by the pancreas . . .

But, isn't spoke of very often . . .

So, what's it all about . . . and how does it affect our "weight loss" issues???

Well . . . we'll talk about that tomorrow.
