Okay . . . so, today's question . . . what can "cause" a psoriasis "flare-up"???
Well . . . one of the "biggest" factors is . . . "COFFEE"!!!
Now . . . don't "panic" my "coffee lovers" . . .
Studies actually show that drinking "UP" to 3 cups per day has really "NO" effect on "psoriasis" . . .
BUT . . . "MORE" than 3 cups per day . . . can cause "flare-ups" of "psoriasis" symptoms.
Okay . . . so, let's continue . . .
Other foods to "avoid" if you have "psoriasis" would be . . .
Red meat and dairy . . . due to containing a "polyunsaturated fatty acid" called . . . "arachidonic acid"
And this "arachidonic acid" . . . causes the process of "inflammation" in the body.
Which in turn . . . this "inflammation" causes a "flare-up" in "psoriasis" . . .
Next up . . .
"Glutens" don't CAUSE "psoriasis" . . . but, they "DO" cause a "flare-up" of symptoms.
So, eating "gluten-free" would be the avenue for "psoriasis" sufferers.
And adding to that . . .
We would want to eliminate . . .
Processed foods
Alcohol
And . . . "nightshades" . . .
You see . . . the "lectins" in nightshades . . . are "binders" . . . or "hitchhikers" . . . and they "attach" to everything within the body . . . even the food we eat . . .
And with this . . . they "promote" . . . "plasmacytoid dendritic cell differentiation" . . . which will exacerbate the "SEVERITY" of psoriasis.
Another element that can cause a "flare-up" would be . . . the "WEATHER"!!!
You see . . . when the "humidity" and "temperature" drops . . . like in winter and fall . . .
This "dry" air . . . and "LESS" exposure to the "sunlight" and its "VITAMIN D" . . . can make "psoriasis" symptoms worse.
So, if this is your situation . . . then . . . we would want to "limit" showers and baths to just . . . "10 minutes" . . . and use "warm" water . . . rather than . . . HOT.
This will help to keep the natural "moisture" in the skin.
