Are we just a "SYMBOL?

So, today . . . let's explore the possibility that in today's world . . . we've become "dehumanized" . . . by "symbols"!!!!


You know the ones . . .


Thumbs up . . . for "likes"

Heart . . . for "love it"

Smiley hugs . . . for "caring"

Lips . . . for sending "kisses"

Mad smiley face . . . for "anger"


And the list goes on and on . . .


What ever happen to actually . . . "talking" to someone???


Now . . . "dehumanization" has always been a "powerful" and "destructive" force in life in the past . . .


But, in today's world . . . "digital technology" . . . is changing the world by accelerating "political polarization" . . . increasing violence . . . and undermining human DIGNITY!!!


We even see it in "marketing" . . .


Years ago . . . marketing stated . . .


If you wanted to be one of the "cool" kids . . . you should smoke a Winston cigarette


But, in today's world . . . "identity commodification" . . . is the process of "turning" aspects of cultural or personal "identity" . . . into marketable goods or services . . .


Unfortunately meaning . . . "brands" SELL "identities" . . . and "lifestyles" . . . rather than JUST products.


And at this point . . . we NOW become . . . just a "SYMBOL" . . . of that product . . . NOT of who we really are as a person.


So, did you know . . .


We "see" . . . more than 4 thousand ads each day??


And they're everywhere . . . at the gas pump, in movie theatres, in a public restroom . . . and of course . . . on TV and social media.


And EVEN IF . . . we were to believe . . . that "advertising" ISN'T an INFLUENCER . . .


KIDS . . . are still becoming . . . "BRAND AMBASSADORS" on social media . . .


And with this . . . the human race . . . now becomes a "symbol" associated with an "idealized lifestyle" . . . and then "projects" that curated version of themselves . . .


SEEKING "VALADATION"!!!!


This leads to feelings of "alienation" . . . and "disconnection" . . . FROM ONE'S "AUTHENTIC SELF"!!!!


We've become a society of "group markers" . . .


Meaning . . . we often "categorize" people as members of groups based on physical or cultural markers . . . which can lead to "prejudgment".


And with this . . . we become just a "symbol" . . . and nothing for us to "symbolize".


So, tomorrow . . . let's continue . . .
