So, yesterday . . . I told you how I know about "DAO deficiency" first hand.
Well, today . . . let's talk about how "like supports like" fit into my health journey.
You know . . . when I was a little girl growing up on our organic farm . . . and it was time to butcher one of the animals for our meat for the next year . . .
I always remember my grandmother saying . . . if you kill an animal for food . . . you should utilize all of it for optimal health.
She always asked for the heart, liver, kidneys, tongue, tail, hooves, etc.
I didn't understand back then . . . in fact . . . I thought it was kind of gross.
But, she was brought up "old school" . . . and understood the "value" of what she was eating.
Hence . . . "like supports like" . . .
You see . . . eating animal "organs" . . . also known as "offal" or "variety meats" . . .
Can offer several potential benefits due to their "high" concentration of vitamins, mineral and other essential nutrients.
And some examples would be . . .
Beef liver - is high in vitamin A, B's (especially B12), iron, folate, and copper . . . which is good for vision, immune function and reproduction
Heart - is a good source of Coenzyme Q10 . . . and antioxidant for heart health and energy
Kidneys - are rich in selenium and B12 . . . which support the immune system, thyroid and DNA protection
And Tongue - provides protein, B vitamins and fatty acids
So, consuming "organ meats" can benefits us in many natural ways like . . .
Being a rich source of B vitamins including B12, B6, niacin and riboflavin . . . for energy production, brain health and nerve function.
They also provide vital minerals like . . . iron, zinc and selenium . . . which play roles in "red blood cell" formation, immune function and overall metabolism
My grandmother used to call this . . . "nose-to-tail" approach to eating animals.
Whereas . . . history calls it . . . "like supports like".
Now . . . I'm sure there are many of you that are saying . . . I "don't" eat meat . . . and I'm certainly NOT eating this "variety meat"!!!!!!
Well . . . just hear me out on this one . . .
So, how does "like supports like" help me and my health???
Well . . . tomorrow let's talk about that.
