How can our "Hunger/Thirst" sensor "MALFUNCTION"?

So, how do we know if the part of the "limbic system" in the brain called the "hypothalamus" is "malfunctioning"???

Well . . . it all has to do with our . . . "ADRENAL GLAND" function . . .

So, let's connect the dots . . .

We've spoken before about how "stress" affects our "adrenal glands" and the hormone they process called "cortisol" . . . which is the "STRESS" and "BELLY FAT PRODUCER"

And "IF" . . . the "adrenal glands" have to work TOO hard to produce enough "cortisol" for the amount of "stress" in our life . . .

We become " ADRENAL EXHAUSTED" . . .

And . . . when this happens . . . it affects the "hypothalamus" part of the brain . . .

Which can cause issues like . . .

Weight loss - unexplained

Weight gain

Fatigue

Muscle weakness

Low blood pressure

Vomiting

and DEHYDRATION

So, the next question we need to ask is this . . .

How can we help the "limbic system" and "hydrate" our brain???

Well . . . we would want to do things like . . .

Drink water throughout the day . . . aim for 1 cup of water every 20 pounds of body weight

Drink a glass of water 30 minutes before a meal

Sip water instead of gulping it

Eat fruits and vegetable with high water content like . . . radishes, lettuce, water melon, cucumbers, strawberries, peaches and oranges

Drink broths and soups

And when exercising for more than an hour . . . drink "electrolytes" in your water, NOT SPORTS DRINKS PEOPLE . . . real electrolytes!!!!

Now, unfortunately . . . as we age . . . our ability to "sense" THIRST . . . decreases . . . making it important for people over 60 to "hydrate" EVEN IF . . . you DON'T feel "thirsty"!!!

And "dehydration" is yet just another reason why as we age . . . we can't lose weight . . .

You see . . . water is needed to break down "fats" into fatty acids, polysaccharides into monosaccharide and glucose and protein into amino acids . . . so we can utilize this process for energy to burn calories and our fat.

So moral to this story is . . . when you think you're hungry and it's not a meal time . . .

Think twice my friends . . . and ask yourself . . . am I really "hungry" or am I just "thirsty"?

And grab yourself a glass of water . . . instead of a calorie fulling snack.

Now tomorrow . . . we'll talk about an element that can make it difficult for the body to determine "IF" its . . . "hungry" . . . or "thirsty".
