So, today . . . let's dig a little deeper and talk about how "Marijuana" affects the body and our "brain" . . .
Now . . . there's a part of the "brain" that we've spoken about many time before called the . . . "Limbic system" . . .
And it's responsible for . . .
Processing emotions
Managing memory
Regulating motivation
Controlling behavior
And is linked to our smell and response to it
It also . . . "regulating" our fight, flight or freeze reaction . . .
Meaning our CORTISOL hormone . . . the one we've been talking about the past few months!!!!
So, how does this part of the "brain" interact with the "THC" in "Marijuana"???
Well . . . there are 3 parts to the "Limbic system" in the brain . . .
And they would be the . . .
Amygdala
Hippocampus
Prefrontal cortex
So, let's break it down to better understand . . .
Now . . . the U.S. National Library of Medicine states that in the . . .
"Amygdala" part of the Limbic system . . . THC attaches to receptors in this part of the brain . . . causing feelings of "fear" . . . and "anxiety" . . .
In the "Hippocampus" . . . THC disrupts signaling in this area of the brain . . . which can impair "short-term memory" . . .
In the "Prefrontal Cortex" . . . THC can increase activity patterns in this area of the brain . . . which controls "HOW" the brain perceives emotional information and the strength of memories associated with these emotions . . .
And what about "brain" DEVELOPMENT???
Well . . . adolescent "cannabis" users . . . tend to perform MORE POORLY . . . than non-users on tasks requiring attention, memory and processing speed . . .
Okay . . . so, moving on . . .
Next question . . . what about the body's "immune system"???
Well . . . the U. S. National Library of Medicine also states . . .
"The use of Cannabis can "impair" the immune system, making it harder for the body to fight disease"
How you ask???
Well . . . "Marijuana"/THC . . .
"Inhibits immune cells" . . . meaning "prevents" them from stopping the "spread" of disease . . .
"Increases the risk of bacterial and fungal infections" . . . and the risk of "tumors . . .
And "exposure" can . . . INCREASE . . . the "oxidative stress" in "red blood cells . . .
Which can "damage" red blood cell membranes!!!!
Okay . . . now, it's only fair . . . to talk about the "flip-side" of "Marijuana" also . . .
In reporting the "facts" . . .
Science states . . . the "benefits" to THC are treating . . .
Chronic pain
Nausea
Muscle spasms caused by MS
Seizures
Reducing inflammation
Improving sleep
And as an anti-depressant
So, tomorrow . . . let's see if there's more to this story . . .
