So, yesterday . . . we discovered just how important it is to "listen" to what our body is telling us . . .
We also spoke of all the different "systems" in the body . . . that need our "attention" for optimal life!
So, today . . . let's break these important "systems" down to better understand what we NEED to be LISTENING for!
First up . . . our "cardiovascular system" . . . how does it work???
Well . . . this system involves the "heart" acting as a pump . . . controlled by "neural and humoral" mechanisms . . . to circulate blood through vessels.
The heart has 4 chambers that fill and contract to send blood through 2 circuits . . . the "pulmonary" (lungs for oxygenation) . . . and the "systemic" (rest of the body).
This flow of blood is regulated by valves that ensure a one-way movement of blood.
So, what would we "LISTEN" for . . . "IF" . . . this system was calling out in distress???
Pressure in the chest
Shortness of breath
Dizziness or fainting
Pain in the arms, back, jaw, neck
Nausea or vomiting
Unexplained fatigue
Excessive sweating
Heart palpitations
Anxiety
Sense of doom
These are symptoms that our "heart" is calling out for help!!!
Next . . . our "digestive system" . . . how does that work???
Well . . . this system involves "mechanical and chemical" processing that breaks down food through a series of steps including . . .
Ingestion
Propulsion
Mechanical breakdown
Chemical digestion
Absorption
Elimination
And this system uses "digestive enzymes" from the "pancreas", "liver" and "stomach" to break down food molecules into smaller . . . absorbable nutrients!
So, what are the symptoms that our "digestive system" is calling out for help???
Well . . . they would be . . .
Abdominal pain - mild or severe with cramps, a sharp pain or a burning sensation
Changes in bowel movements - persistent constipation or diarrhea
Bloating - a feeling of fullness or tightness in the abdomen . . . due to gas
Heartburn - burning sensation in the upper abdomen or chest
Nausea and vomiting - this is an infection, blockage or other serious conditions
Unexplained weight loss or gain - this is a digestive issue
Indigestion - feeling uncomfortably full for a long time after eating or early fullness and excessive burping
Fatigue - persistent, unexplained tiredness
Difficulty swallowing - sensation that food is getting stuck in the throat or is difficult to pass to the stomach
Bloody stools or blood in vomit - this is a serious sign that requires immediate medical attention
And tomorrow . . . we'll continue with the "endocrine" and "excretory/urinary" systems.
