So, let's finish up this 2 week series about the "MECHANICS" of our important functioning systems . . .
And "LISTENING" to the "warning signs" of our "internal dialogue"!!!
So, today . . . we'll be talking about our "Skeletal system" . . .
What is it and what are the "warning" signs something is wrong???
The "mechanics" of this system involve . . . lever systems where . . .
Bones act as rigid levers
Joint act as fulcrums
and muscles provide the force to create movement.
This system provides . . .
Structural support
Protection for organs
Stores minerals
And facilitates movement through the interaction of bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments and cartilage.
And what are the "signs" that something's wrong???
Well . . . we would look for . . .
Bone, joint or muscle pain - a persistent dull, or aching pain
Stiffness - difficulty moving a joint or a general feeling of stiffness especially after periods of rest
Grinding or popping - a grating or cracking sensation when moving a joint can point to a loss of cartilage
Loss of height - a noticeable decrease in height over time can be a sign of spine compression from bone loss
Poor posture - a stooped or hunched posture can indicate a problem with the spine
Bone deformities - visible changes in the shape of a bone or limb
Frequent fractures - breaking a bone from a minor fall or low-impact activity can indicate a disease like "osteoporosis"
Slow healing - a bone that takes an unusually long time to heal after being broken
Muscle weakness - a general feeling of weakness, especially in the thighs or shoulder,
Changes in nails or teeth - brittle fingernails or tooth loss can indicate a deeper issue bone density
Swelling - redness, swelling and warmth around a joint can be signs of an inflammatory condition
and Shortness of breath - spinal compression from bone loss can reduce lung capacity
Okay . . . my friends . . .
So, we just spent that last 2 weeks learning about our bodily systems for optimal health.
And what are YOU going to do with this KNOWLEDGE???
Well hopefully . . . LISTEN TO YOUR BODY and WHAT IT'S TELLING YOU!!!!
So, next week . . . let's talk about the "liver".
