So, yesterday . . . we spoke about how an "injury" can damage the "spleen" . .
But, what about EVERYDAY wear and tear on our poor "spleen"???
Well, today . . . let's explore the possibility that this Western diet we all love so much . . . is REALLY what's destroying this "MISUNDERSTOOD" organ . . .
So, what FOODS aggravate the "spleen" you ask???
Well, they would be . . .
FAST FOODS like . . . burgers, fries, pizza, tacos, hot dogs and nuggets
PROCESSED FOODS like . . . deli meats, packaged snacks and sweets
SUGARY DRINKS like . . . soda, milkshakes, iced tea and energy drinks
HIGH-SODIUM SNACKS like . . . chips, pretzels and crackers
and HIGH FAT FOODS like . . . fried foods
Alrighty then . . . that's just about EVERY things we love in this WESTERN DIET!!!!
So, next question . . . what happens "IF" we AGGRAVATE the "spleen" on a regular basis with the food we eat???
Well . . . the "spleen" would now become "INFLAMED" . . . and "IF" bad enough . . . "ENLARGED"!!!
Now . . . at this point . . . this illness and "inflammation" is called "Splenomegaly".
With symptoms of . . .
PAIN . . . and/or discomfort in the upper left abdomen, which can spread to the left shoulder or back
FULLNESS . . . feeling full after eating a small amount or before eating a large meal
ANEMIA . . . fatigue and weakness, which are common signs of low red blood cells
BLEEDING . . . bruising or bleeding easily
INFECTIONS . . . frequent infections
HICCUPS . . . frequent
WEIGHT LOSS . . . unexplained
NIGHT SWEATS . . . waking in a puddle of sweat
FEELING FAINT . . . for no apparent reason
FEVER . . . low grade
and CHILLS . . . when it's not cold
So, from the past few days . . . we can clearly see . . . just how important the "SPLEEN" is to our optimal health . . .
So, how can we take care of this "MISUNDERSTOOD" organ???
Well . . . doing things like . . .
Eating smaller meals
Choosing nutritious foods like fish and nuts
Avoid or minimize fast food and processed foods
and Eating mindfully, chewing slowly and thoroughly
So, tomorrow . . . we'll talk about ways to "check" your own "spleen" at home . . . and more ways to "improve" our "spleen's" health . . .
